I received this email from Prof. PRK Rao, who is my grand teacher (he taught my teachers :) ) for whom I have unbounded respect. The quote in his email is so special and I did not enjoy any other expression as much in the recent years. Here it goes:
DOES LANGUAGE EXPRESS THOUGHT OR DOES IT MERELY SUCCEED IN EXPOSING THE UNREFLECTIVE CHARACTER OF THOUGHT?
HERE IS HOW MARK TWAIN HAD RESPONDED TO THAT UNASKED QUESTION:
“WHEN I WAS A BOY OF FOURTEEN, MY FATHER WAS SO IGNORANT I COULD HARDLY STAND TO HAVE THE OLD MAN AROUND.BUT WHEN I GOT TO BE TWENTYONE , I WAS ASTONISHED AT HOW MUCH HE HAD LEARNED IN SEVEN YEARS” MARK TWAIN
